Traditional Japanese Art of Ikebana           (Back)

Stafford House College hosted a rare and elegant tribute to an oriental art which helped inspire fresh decorative ideas for Christmas. Rani Innes, Vice Principal at Stafford House College gave a two-hour introductory lecture and hands-on personal instruction seminar in the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement, Ikebana.

Rani Innes initially studied English literature before travelling and teaching extensively in Japan, India and the UK. She holds an international license as an Ikebana instructor which she studied for over 10 years in Japan. The event is being held to celebrate the arrival of the festive season and for anyone interested in learning new ways of flower arrangements and decoration for Christmas and New Year.

Quote: 'I have always been interested in flowers which are used in my culture too, like in Japan, for religious ceremonies in temples and homes, as well as to brighten up rooms. And equally importantly, their symbolic significance universally, whether to convey messages or to mark occasions'.

The lecture theatre at
Stafford House College was almost packed for the unique cultural insight into the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Attendees included students, staff, people from the local area and professional florists.
